Amsterdam Central Station has been serving railway passengers since 1889. This station, also known as Amsterdam Centraal Station, is built on three man made isles in the IJ River. Transportation links from this station provide travelers with easy access to the city of Amsterdam and other cities in Europe. Passengers can take trains, buses, trams, light rail and ferries from the station.

Trains to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport depart from Amsterdam Central Station every 10 minutes during the day and once an hour at night. International trains from the station go to Paris, Frankfurt and Brussels. Domestic trains go to Rotterdam, The Hague, Delft, Haarlem and Maastricht. Travelers can take overnight trains to Milan, Berlin, Munich, Zurich and Copenhagen.

Several bus and tram routes have stops at the station. Visitors can travel northwest, west, east and south of the station using these forms of transportation.

Three light rail lines stop at Amsterdam Central Station. Passengers can take the light rail south and southwest from the station to different parts of Amsterdam.

Travelers can take three ferry lines from the station across the IJ River. One ferry travels north and two travel east.

Train passengers can eat and shop while they are waiting for trains. The Grand Café-Restaurant operates a restaurant and a pub. Passengers can purchase coffee at Starbucks.
